Maths

“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”

– Dr. Seuss

At Hope High School, we believe Maths is for everyone. It is diverse, engaging and essential in equipping students with the right skills to reach their future destination, whatever that may be. Our primary objective is to enable students to engage, explore, enjoy and succeed in maths. To do this, we must remove barriers to learning and delivery a personalised learning programme. Very often learners have low confidence in their mathematical ability; we aim to increase confidence and attainment in Mathematics so that our learners can achieve excellent qualifications when they leave us in year 11.

All students are taught in mixed ability year groups in both KS3 and KS4. There is a strong emphasis on developing confidence through problem solving, logical thinking and working together. All new learners are screened for dyscalculia and are offered specialist 1-1 teaching if required. Other interventions are offered such as a 1-1 study support.

Practical Maths

Some pupils come to Hope High with aversions to Maths. Sometimes because of gaps in knowledge or poor experiences of Maths. Our fabulous Maths teachers try to include practical activities to show our pupils how much fun Maths can be.
